Malia Nelson and Grace Knupp combined to score 33 points in leading the UW-La Crosse women’s basketball team to an upset, blowout win over No. 7 UW-Whitewater.

Nelson scored 17, hitting 10-of-12 free throws, while Knupp went 7 of 13 from the field in putting up 16 to lead the Eagles to a 77-54 win on the road.

UW-L (9-6, 2-2 WIAC) was up 56-47 after three quarters, before really getting nuts, going on a 21-7 fourth-quarter run — ending the third and opening the fourth on a 12-0 run.

UW-L shot 50% from the field and hit 6 of 16 from beyond the arc (37.5%), while holding the Warhawks (12-3, 3-2) to just 32.3% shooting, including 3 of 19 from deep.

Next up, the Eagles host UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m. Saturday.
